Born to a mother with a classical pedigree and a professional jazz guitarist father, Matt grew up in Shelton, CT engulfed in music. He began violin at the age of 4 (soon after left behind), began the guitar at age 8, and started singing probably not long after he could make farm animal noises.  He first put pen to paper in songwriting at the age of 12, finding it as a way to creatively engage.

After high school, Matt attended New York University and studied Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, psychology and music. This choice of studies led to fluency in these three languages (in addition to English), and spurred him on a creative pursuit: to combine foreign languages with the universal language of music.  After studying abroad in Italy, graduating from NYU, and living at an orphanage in Trujillo, Peru for eight months, Matt’s musical roots sprouted one step further and he recorded his debut EP entitled Ready. With two songs in English, one in Portuguese and two in Spanish, this was the beginning of a tenacious recording drive.

In January of 2012 Matt flew down to Tennessee and worked on his follow-up album alongside producers Dave Flint and John Griffin.  Crafted as a collection of four lyrically rich and musically layered tracks, Matt’s sophomore EP entitled Happy Go Lucky was released on May 1st and reached #8 on the iTunes Singer/Songwriter charts, gracing the listings with the likes of Norah Jones, James Taylor and Carole King.

Having spent the majority of 2012 based in New York City, Matt made the move to Nashville for 2013 to dive into Music City’s vibrant scene.  His unique style draws influence from a variety of genres including pop/rock, folk, jazz, and blues and is characterized by poignant, thoughtful lyrics and soothing yet powerful vocals. Continuing to write and perform meaningful and high quality music, Matt seeks to be heard by and connect with as many people as possible.

Since the move, Matt has released an acoustic demo album entitled Fragments and Glimpses, as well as the Christmas EP Acoustic Tidings, both of which you can download for free at www.noisetrade.com/MattBednarsky.

However, breaking through to another level, in March of 2014 Matt released his first full-length studio album, entitled A Bigger Picture.  In part executive produced by Ed Cash, this record represents the culmination of Matt’s musical journey thus far.  He hopes it inspires, challenges, and entertains you, as well as stirs within you the sense of yearning we all find inside of us.
